The weather in the Southeast can be unpredictable in all seasons of the year. We ask that clients make sure they bring synthetic layers in order to achieve maximum comfort. Cotton should be avoided due to the fact that it absorbs water, therefore increases evaporative heat loss. Synthetic layers, poly-propylene, fleece are the best bets because they properly allow water vapor to escape and retain body heat despite being wet.
Bring any medications that you are currently taking.

Meet time/location: Ski Country Sports 9:00 am
Destination: DuPont State Forest
Day Description: Riders will meet at Ski Country Sports in North Asheville to purchase any last minute supplies and or gear that the may need. As a group we will travel to Dupont State Forest , a mecca for mountain biking trails, hiking trails, waterfalls and swimming holes. On the first day we will warm up on smooth groomed singletrack trails with steep and gnarly Appalachian descents, loaded with steps, water bars and roots. From there we will head to slick rock trails where you can test your skills on uneven terrain with plenty of opportunities to catch air. Lunch will be served alongside the Little River, where you can relax, soak up the sun, or go for a swim. From there we will head to more thrilling singletrack. The day will conclude with a visit to a beautiful waterfall before settling at the Pisgah campground. Cocktails, creek side chair massage, reading, or swinging in a hammock, are leisure options while we prepare dinner. |
|
About Dupont
The forest was founded 7 years ago after the state purchased the property from a local land developer who had recently bought it from the Dupont Corporation. Dupont constructed over 90 trails throughout the 10,000 acres they owned: miles of singletrack and slick rock trails, with incredible waterfalls lurking around each corner.
Dupont is home to some of the only true slick rock trails in the eastern United States. Three slick rock trails covering a bald granite mountain will leave even the most advanced rider totally exhilarated.

Day 2
Destination: Pisgah National Forest
Day Description: Pisgah National Forest has it all; with more singletrack that one can ride in perhaps a lifetime, surrounded by lush, thick, green forest. It is one of the wettest areas in the country. We will explore the depths of this forest, seeking breathtaking mountain vistas, enchanting waterfalls, adrenaline pumping downhills, and climbs. The best way to explain this ride is steep and technical. We will begin by riding up Clawhammer to Black Mountain, arguably one of the better downhill trails in Western North Carolina. Lunch will be served on the banks of the Davidson River, recently ranked in the top one hundred in fly fishing rivers in the country. Afternoon rides take us to numerous trails around the Fish Hatchery, in the heart of Pisgah. At the end of the day, we will set up camp beside a mountain creek in the lush jungle of the forest. |

Pisgah National Forest
The land referred to as the Pisgah National Forest is over a half million acres, mostly surrounding Mt. Pisgah. The land was first acquired by George Vanderbilt in the late 1800’s, to be a part of his famous Biltmore Estate erected in Asheville in 1885. The US Government acquired the land from Vanderbilt’s widow after his death in 1914. Mt. Pisgah, along with the Nantahala National Forest, makes up most of the majority of Western North Carolina’s forested land. But the forest has also shaped other surrounding areas. The most commonly used entrance into Pisgah is on Hwy. 276 in Brevard, NC. Brevard’s close proximity to Pisgah and its mild climate has turned it into a hot spot in the country for athletes to live and train year-round. |

Day 3
Destination: Pisgah National Forest
Day Description: We have located the best downhill shuttle rides around for this muscle recovery day. Get ready to drop some of the steepest, fastest trails that will leave you shouting for more. Our first downhill will begin alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway ending in the Mills River area. This forty minute rip roaring ride is the ideal way to get the day started. From here we will travel north on the Parkway to Mt. Mitchell. Be prepared to ride down the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi, following Heartbreak ridge, which drops from the summit of Mt. Mitchell to the town of Old Fort. From here the van will then shuttle you to the trail head of Kitzuma, one of the legendary rides in Western Carolina. A narrow singletrack trail with steep drop offs, technical descents, and straight ridgelines, Kitzuma is very fast. By the time you reach the bottom, your nerves are completely shot and your adrenaline is at an all time high. Time permitting there is an option of riding an old roadbed up the side of a remote mountain to the Kitzuma trail head, experiencing complete solitude in the wilderness. From here we’ll drive to Tsali recreation area and set up camp. Pre dinner plans are either a refreshing swim in the pristine Lake Fontana, or bathing in the campground showers. Creek-side massages and cocktails will be offered, with plenty of time to unwind in a hammock and reflect on the day. Don’t forget your bike’s light for optional evening activities, including a night ride through Tsali. |

Day 4
Destination: Tsali Recreation Area
Day Description: Tsali Recreation Area, ranked one of the top mountain biking locations in the country, has miles of fast groomed singletrack, all along side of Lake Fontana. This pristine mountain lake boasts turquoise colors with spectacular mountain views. At any point during the day we’ll stop for a cool refreshing dip. The beginner/intermediate trail system here consists of two major loops with two independent trails in each of the loop, a total mileage of roughly 36. Depending on the day of the week, there is a rotation of the two major loops that are open to bikers. Tsali is an ideal ending to this four day adventure. Fast fun trails, with incredible views that will leave you in a state of pure Appalachia bliss. The group will travel back to Asheville for the conclusion. |

About Tsali
The Tsali recreation area, located in the Nantahala National Forest, consist of four peninsulas that stretch out onto Fontana Lake, adjacent the Great Smoky National Park. “Tsali” was a Cherokee Indian who refused the government order to remove the nation west to Oklahoma. Instead he sacrificed his life so that over 1000 of his people could stay in there homeland. He was buried in the community, which now is at the bottom of Fontana Lake. |

Destination: Pisgah National Forest
Distance: 12-16 miles

We’ll start our first ride by warming up on service roads around the NC Fish Hatchery. Our singletrack experience will begin on moderate trails without any major climbs or steep descents. Our guides will use this opportunity to evaluate your ability, so that, the next four days will challenge you but not get you in over you head. Day 2
Distance: 15-18 miles
On the second and third days you'll really get a feel for what Pisgah is all about. We'll shuttle over to Forest Service Road 1206 for a nice riverside, three mile warm-up, and hit the Laurel Mountain Trail. Laurel Mountain is a fairly technical trail, littered with roots and rocks, steep climbs and descents, but the payoff is amazing. We'll exit Laurel mountain via Pilot Rock trail. This is an awesome descent highlight by a huge granite bald where you can lookout over the valley, the view is breathtaking! After the ride, lunch will be served and the afternoon will be yours to swim, hike to a waterfall, or take advantage of our shuttle ride to a hot shower at the Davidson River Campground!
On days two and three, a "night ride" will be offered after your gourmet dinner is served. If you still have something left in the tank, a short three to four mile loop departs directly from our campsite on trails from day one so that you have the familiarity needed to ride at night. Light rental is included in the price of the tour.
